Open Admin to Promote Education Management Information System

in Secondary Education System of Tajikistan

2007 – 2008

Overview

The Public Fund Civil Initiative on Policy of Internet (CIPI) jointly with its NGO partners, supported by the Education Program and Information Program of OSI Tajikistan has piloted an open model of the education management information system (EMIS) on the basis of OpenAdmin in over 20 secondary schools and one university. The project was implemented in two phases:

  1. 2006 – 2007. OpenAdmin localisation (translation into Tajik and Russian) and customisation (adaptation to meet national education system requirements) jointly with NGO Pulse. The application was tested in 4 secondary schools of Dushanbe in partnerships with the capital Education Department and its district subordinate departments
  2. 2007-2008. Expanding of piloting scope into Khatlon province. Overall 21 partners - secondary schools representing 4 local education authorities (Sino, Firdawsi, Kulob and Qurghonteppa) and 2 NGO-partners (MATHEMA and Soson) were actively involved in the implementation of OpenAdmin.

Once part of the Samanid Empire, Tajikistan became was a constituent republic of the Soviet Union in the 20th century.

From there,  comes from the Public Fund Civil Internet Policy Initiative in Tajikistan. This group focuses on ICTs (information and communication technologies) as an enabler of socio-economic development in Tajikistan.
